Introducing Gareth Heesom, singer, songwriter from Runcorn, Cheshire. A regular on the local music scene, Gareth has cemented his credibility as a powerful and talented musician.
Recently, I had the chance to catch up with Gareth when he was invited to be a guest on Iain Tinsley’s unsigned show on HCR, where he performed some great songs and talked about his latest goings on, which we’ll write about below. Read more below:
Gareth started out on his path as a budding musicians, as with every musician, at quite a young age.
I started playing guitar when I was 15, but before that music was always big in our house. My dad played guitar and always had music on, Ralph McTell, Tom Paxton, The Beatles, Don Williams, Billy Joel. I loved all of it and tried to listen to as much different music as I could. I still do.
His songs, like most of the musicians who have inspired him, tend to stay towards relationships and topics that have affected him, drawing on the emotion of these to aid him in giving a great performance. He also has an array of covers which he adds his own spin on too.
I threw myself back into music after a relationship break up. It gave me something to focus on, something to give me a bit of confidence back (It took me a couple of months to get up at an Open Mic Night). I started writing some songs, I found it a massive help to deal with everything going on. Happily, my love life is back on track, as you can probably tell from my songs 😉
With a quite lengthy list of originals and covers he has the diversity in his sets and the right choice of songs to entertain any crowd. This song in particular is one of my favorites as it showcases his amazing guitar work, vocals and ability to put across the emotion in his songs.
More recently Gareth was involved in a group to organise Halton’s We Shall Overcome events, which were an overall success.
We Shall Overcome has taken up so much of my time, but the effort was well worth it. We Shall Overcome was a series of events across the country all under the one banner, the aim was to help people who needed it. Entry to events was a donation to local food banks, plus raising funds for other great causes. I played three gigs over the weekend, and loved it.
You will be able to catch Gareth at the following upcoming gigs.
30th October – Norton Arms, Runcorn 6pm-8pm
7th November – The Venue, Lymm
14th November – The Royal Oak, Weston Point, Runcorn
