unZined 2015: New music review
2015 has been a great year for new unsigned music and it’s been great to be able to discover so many great bands/artists. Its reassuring to know the independant music industry is in fact not dead, but still thriving with bands either doing it for the fun of it or eager and waiting to be signed up and to hit new heights. Its been also great to check in on band previously featured to see how they are faring. This is my round up of the bands I’ve crossed paths with throughout the year.
Along came the start of 2015 and with it brought plenty of bands and artists new and old our way. Our highlights were featuring top local bands such as Cloudburst, The Sky, Factory, The Spitting Pips, Stolen Stream, Scarlet, Accepting April and solo artists Emily Ayre, Liz Owen, James Swift and Junior Dayvis. All brought with them an eagerness to be discovered and it was great to interview them and give them notice, promo-wise, through unZined. We also got the chance to review some great releases from The Spitting Pips and LazyEye. Little Indie Night hosted two top band nights featuring some great bands and it was great to see their music up close and how it should be heard. All in all a great start to the year!
As the year progressed, unZined carried on looking for more unsigned band/artists to post about. We reviewed some great releases from Ravellas, Louie Louie, Sly Antics, Andrew Warner, Factory and Cloudburst. We featured many others too, Stilla, Laura and Claire, Psyence, Gareth Heesom and The Havocs to name a few. Overall, a great year, one which surprised us with the amount of previously unrecognised local talent out there.
Here’s to 2016. Stay tuned for more featured bands/artists and reviews throughout the year to come.
unZined, an offshoot of Little Indie Night, a night aimed at hosting what is becoming one of the best live music events in the Northwest, has been given free run to find local talent, find out a bit more about what makes them tick and spread the word around to promote local music.
